Men's Treatments

At Simply Aesthetics we have expert knowledge of men’s skin that is critical to obtaining a natural male look. Our clinicians have extensive expertise in male facial aesthetics and the ageing process in men.

Unlike many competitors, we do not charge a supplement for treating men.

Men and Facial Rejuvenation
The first impression of a man’s face is considered important in both personal and professional arenas. Smooth, blemish free skin conveys an absence of inherited skin disease and creates a favorable first impression.

Today, men of all ages and all walks of life seek cosmetic rejuvenation procedures – whether it’s to feel better, look younger or even help with their careers.

Men want a better defined, more angular shape on both their bodies and faces. They want to look youthful and vibrant, rather than “beautiful.” We know that men need a balanced approach to achieve natural looking rejuvenation without feminising.

At Simply Aesthetics, we are skilled at achieving subtle results for our male customers.  Most procedures have minimal downtime, however you may have to set aside time to recover for some procedures.

Is male skin different?
First rule of thumb: Men’s skin needs are fundamentally the same as the skin needs of women!

The main difference is that male skin tends to be more sebaceous (with larger oil glands), has larger follicles and is thicker in texture. It still has the same needs as women’s skin and is susceptible to the same skin problems.

Just like women, men need to cleanse and moisturise and help the skin to exfoliate (shed dead skin cells). Effective exfoliation reduces the likelihood of shaving rash and ingrown hairs. See our ageing and skincare guide for more information.

A common mistake is to use too many foaming products such as a soapy cleansers and foamy shaving creams. This causes irritation and dryness, leading to lack-lustre skin. It also causes the common problems of dermatitis.

Rosacea is also a common problem in male skin. This is characterised by skin sensitivity, with redness, increased flushing and broken capillaries. It is exacerbated by anything that makes the skin flush e.g. heat, sunlight and alcohol. Rosacea can also end up causing pimple-like spots across the nose, cheeks and chin. The good thing is Rosacea can be treated. Left untreated, symptoms are guaranteed to get worse.

Factors in male ageing
Cumulative exposure to sunlight remains the single largest factor for skin ageing in men. Only 33% of men use sunscreen daily (compared to 78% of women). Consequently, men tend to have much more sun damage than women.

Over time, skin becomes drier, thinner, less resilient, and less elastic. Loss of elasticity leads to wrinkling.

The bony ridge areas of the cheeks of the male face tend to coarsen with age and the overlying soft tissue expands and becomes thin.

The brow ridge also becomes more coarse and facial volume around the eyes is lost. This results in less fat pad definition and a deeper “tear trough” deformity.

In men, volume loss in all layers of the skin is greatest in the lower third of the face, from the nose down to the tip of the chin. This leads to deep folds and static wrinkles around the mouth. In fact, a prominent nasolabial fold is one of the most common features of an aged male face. The descendent line at the corner of the mouth in the adult male is also a very common sign of facial ageing.

Volume loss also produces cheek hollowing, particularly in men who have genetically thin lips. Around the age of 40, this lack of volume, combined with hyperpigmented spots and broken blood vessels, contributes to an older appearance of the face.

Common treatments for Men include:
  • Anti-wrinkle injections for frown lines and crows feet
  •  Dermal fillers to improve nose to mouth lines and cheek volume
  • Tear trough treatment for hollowing under eyes
  •  Hyperhydrosis treatment for underarm sweating
  • Skin peels for pigmentation and sun damage
  • eDermastamp for skin rejuvenation
  • Skincare for the prevention of damage and maintenance
